What We Learn in Third Grade
Math
Math Facts - It is important that your child knows his/her multiplication math facts to 12. A student who knows his/her math facts quickly can take learning to a higher level quicker. A good rule of thumb is once you give your child a math problem (i.e. 8 x 7) he/she should be able to say the answer before you snap your fingers 3 times. Fact Families - Another concept we will work on in class and your child needs to work on at home is Fact Families. For example if given the three numbers 3, 7, 21 the fact families would be:
3 x 7 = 21 7 x 3 = 21 21/3 = 7 21/7 = 3 Skip counting Multiplication Division Adding and subtracting within 1000 Fractions Geometric Shapes Area/Perimeter |
